Trip-Around-The-World
Well, its officially 12 days before my husband, Nick and I leave for our adventures overseas for 3 months! January 21- April 17! Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, South Africa, Mozambique, Argentina, and Cost Rica!
One of the reasons we are going to the 9 different countries we are visiting is, of course, photography! I am so excited to photograph the different sceneries and people groups- and even teach photography in Cambodia! Wow- chance of a lifetime! Another main purpose of the trip is to serve others less fortunate! We are teaming up with multiple different organizations to volunteer our time, services, and help wherever we can! That will include everything from loving and playing with children who have been orphaned in South Africa to volunteering our time and labor to help re-paint an orphanage in Thailand, to just being eager, willing people to serve others ! We couldn’t be more excited! Jesus said in Galatians, “the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” and that’s what we intend to do – Show Jesus’ love to those who otherwise might not know what it’s like to be loved. I will continue posting pictures and stories of our time overseas and hope to be able to stay connected with whoever wishes! Also, if you are interested in booking Paula Watts Photography for assignments, please feel free to email me at paulawattsphoto@yahoo.com and we can discuss bookings for projects in April!
Trattoria Sbandati | Food Photographer, Bend Oregon
If you haven’t savored the flavors of Trattoria Sbandati in Bend, Oregon, you are missing out! Juri and Kinley Sbandati have set the bar high with their new restaurant featuring authentic Florence cuisine and wine pairings. But do not expect an “eat and run” restaurant. They have set the tone to wine and dine and enjoy the atmosphere with four courses to every dinner.
I had the great pleasure of photographing some of Juri’s beautiful dishes for their advertisements and website. It was nothing less than an enjoyable experience working hand in hand with Juri and their amazing designer Jon Taylor Carter. We really wanted to show off the textures and beautiful colors of the dishes and continue with the theme of the Italian, rustic feel. In order to accomplish this, I worked with specific lighting techniques to enhance and dramatize the food. It is really important to work with the balance of highlights brushing off the food and where the shadows fall to create the right feel. In addition, we wanted to include a bit of the low-light atmosphere in some of the images which is all about balancing the light and the connection between the restaurant and subject. El Jardin Mexican Cuisine San Diego CA Photographer
I loved photographing El Jardin, mexican restaurant, for San Diego Magazine. Their food is vibrant and beautiful and most importantly, delicious! The presentation is a photographer’s dream come true… very graphic and full of texture. I decided to play off the bright look and feel of the ambience of the restaurant and food, and photograph some of the dishes on a bright blue background in order to give more pop to the overall image and make the viewer’s eye go straight to the food. Sometimes less is more with backgrounds. For lighting, I decided to do something a bit more harsh to play with the shadow’s and texture a bit more. I never want them to distract away from the food or beverage I photograph, but instead help complete the image.
